This site is the work of Brian Ellett, currently Head of Science at Salesian College, Chadstone and co-author of Chemistry Dimensions 1 (Year 11) and 2 (Year 12), published by Pearson Education. In 2009 I will be taking up an appointment as Assistant to the Principal (Teaching and Learning) at Kilbreda College Mentone. This site will be an integral part of my program at the college.
Prior to this appointment I worked for many years as the Year 12 Co-ordinator and Senior Chemistry teacher at Loreto Mandeville Hall in Toorak, Melbourne.

Congratulations, Brian. I don’t think you will regret moving to WordPress.
And what a great theme this is: very clean and pleasing to the eye.
Hi Brian,
I attended your TTA workshop – Teaching the new Chemistry Course a couple of weeks back and have had a good time browsing through your website – very informative. I would like to know if you use any DVDs or videos to help explain any of the Unit 1 or 2 Course. I did make a note of a 4min video from VEA about “The history of the Atom” and have looked at your Youtube demos. Is there anything you can recommend? We are moving from Yr 7 – 10 to VCE for the first time next year and our resources are slim to say the least.
I look forward to your reply, Thanks.
Good to hear from you, Russell. I remember you mentioning that your school was making the transition into the VCE years; I would imagine this could be quite daunting! I am writing this from home and so don’t have access to my full DVD catalogue, but we do use some first-class videos sourced from VEA (Video Education Australia, located in Bendigo). There are two fabulous ones that the students will just love. They are animations in the Pixar tradition and are corny and silly but very well written. One is called “Atom Bond” – a spoof of James Bond and another focuses on the Periodic Table, though I cannot remember its proper name. They are both extremely well known and worth purchasing (cost is around $110 per DVD).
I will get back to you within the next few days when I have some more concrete information.
Regards, Brian
